When I tell people I am a hypnotist, they picture a stage, a swinging watch and someone clucking like a chicken.

So here is what it is really like when an entrepreneur works with me. If you have ever been curious about seeing a hypnotist and put off by not knowing what you would be walking into, this is for you.

Hypnotist or hypnotherapist?

Both words describe someone who uses hypnosis. I am a certified hypnotist, and hypnotherapy is what I do with clients: hypnosis used to help you change something in your life. Some people call me a hypnotherapist, and that is fine by me. Neither has anything to do with stage shows.

The first session has no hypnosis in it

This surprises people. The first session is a conversation.

I explain how the conscious and subconscious mind work together, and why the things you have already tried made sense and still did not last. People who understand what is happening relax into it far more easily, so I never skip this.

Then we get specific about you. Where you are going, and who you would need to be to get there. I ask you directly what you believe about yourself that is holding you back, and we trace each belief to roughly when it began.

We do not try to change anything yet. You leave that session seeing the pattern clearly, often for the first time.

What hypnosis feels like

When we do use hypnosis, here is what to expect.

You are awake and aware. You hear everything I say. You could open your eyes, speak or stop at any point.

It feels familiar. It is close to the moment before sleep, or being so absorbed in a film that the room disappears. You're in hypnosis every day. Some people would say doing work like this is dehypnotising yourself. You have been in this state thousands of times. We are using it on purpose.

Your mind will chatter at first. First-timers often tell me they spent the opening minutes wondering whether it was "working". That is normal, and it settles.

You stay in charge. I guide, and you do the work. I check in with you throughout, in a way that does not pull you out of the state.

We always talk afterwards. What stood out, what came up, what felt different. Every person responds in their own way, and that conversation is how the next session gets shaped around you.

One of my clients, Jamie, said this about his first session:

“What surprised me most was how quickly it can change. After our very first call, I felt really, really good, almost instantly. The self-doubt is gone and I've been able to separate what's actually in my control from what isn't. I'm trading with zero resistance.”

What we actually do in there

I will not walk you through the techniques, partly because they are tailored to each person and partly because they work better experienced than explained. But the shape is always the same.

  1. Find where it started
  2. Take the charge out of it
  3. Build what replaces it
The three steps, in order.

First, we find where it started. Sometimes you already know. Often you do not, and the answer that surfaces is one you would never have guessed by thinking about it.

Then we take the charge out of it. You will still remember what happened. It simply stops running you.

Then we build what replaces it. The version of you that the old belief was keeping out of reach. You experience it first hand, and you leave with a way to bring that state back when you need it.

Between sessions

This is the part people underestimate. When you work with me, you get personalised audio built from your own words. You listen first thing in the morning and last thing at night, because those are the times your mind is naturally quietest and most open. You use what we have installed in real situations: before the call, before you press record, before the difficult conversation. And we stay in touch, so when the old pattern shows up on a Tuesday afternoon, you are not waiting a week to deal with it.

What hypnosis cannot do

  • It cannot make you do anything you do not want to do. You are aware and in control throughout.
  • It is not a single session miracle. Something often shifts early. It lasts because we repeat it and because you use it in daily life.
  • It will not work on someone who does not want to change. You do not need to believe in it beforehand. You do need to be willing.

Still unsure?

That is reasonable. Plenty of the people I work with were sceptical when they started.
